Tell us about your background in physiotherapy.

I’m Annika Leung, a registered physiotherapist (HCPC, Hong Kong Physiotherapy Board) and a graduate of the University of Essex with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy. My background in physiotherapy began with a strong pull toward women’s health—drawn not only by the female body’s physiological complexity but also by deep respect for the transformative journey of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery.

Seeing close friends and family go through traditional Chinese confinement after giving birth, and witnessing how positively it supported their healing, inspired me to bridge those time‑honoured practices with modern physiotherapy. I pursued specialist certifications in postpartum belly binding, lactation support, and a Diploma in Postnatal Care (Level 2), and I’ve since had the privilege of working alongside many mothers using these techniques to promote gentle, effective recovery. My professional path also led me to have the honour of collaborating closely with Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners in a clinical setting, delivering integrated care that blends evidence‑based Western physiotherapy with culturally rooted approaches.

The most fulfilling part of this job is watching a mother move from exhaustion and uncertainty to quiet confidence in her own body—seeing her rebuild strength, ease pain, and finally feel at home in herself again. Outside of work, my personal interests include Pilates, golf, and learning different languages and cultures!
